I don’t know if it’s the successful effort of making myself play in the sun more or the daily scoops of mushroom blend that I’ve been adding to my coffee, but I’ve been more upbeat and focused these last couple of weeks. The insomnia is still a reoccurring issue, but I don’t have that feeling of being pulled down and dragged across the floor. So, what does any sane person do when they feel like this? Take advantage of every single minute, even if you get all four seasons in one week.
This may come as shock to you, but I just hung up one of my own paintings EVER in my house (LOL). Yeah…I’m currently working on adding some extra color to my very bare ass walls. For years, I only had one loom tapestry and two paintings. When my mother came to visit for Thanksgiving last year, she teased me for blessing others with my art yet I didn’t have any of my own work to display. How? Well I’m working on that right now.
What’s good?
My application has been accepted for the Design Core Network with Design Core Detroit. They are a resource hub that assists Detroit’s design community through annual events and provides assistance to help strengthen and grow design businesses. I can’t wait to take advantage of all the things they have to offer.
On Sunday, I took a field trip to the Norwest Art Gallery in Detroit. Thanks to my new photographer friend, Brad at Grand River Classics for giving me the right directions to get there (because I got lost standing directly across the street from it on Saturday lol), I was able to enjoy the new Heavy Melanin exhibit. I’ve passed this gallery countless times and never knew it existed. If you blink, you’ll miss it. The first thing that came to mind was every single piece of art was drenched in rich colors. Yes, heavy on the melanin. I’m not one to immediately gravitate towards portraits but seeing this curated collection filled me with butterflies. Not a single one out-shining the other. A few works that I was drawn to the most are “D-Girl” by Jamar Lockhart, “Boy” by Anita Sewell, “Lightwork I & II” by India Solomon and “Deliverance” by Mariah Mitchell. This exhibit is worth visiting and if you’re in the Detroit metro area, please go check it out. Also, check out the work of the participating artists on social media as well.
New projects are coming so be ready.
I’ve been itching to make collages, but I wanted to try something new. My skills have evolved so much since 2022 and I had some doubts about how long I could keep up with the style and if anyone would like it. I no longer have that fear and I’m continuing to let go of my limitations. I’m not for everybody.
As most of my artwork is typically no larger than 16x20in, I’m doing it differently this time.
NEW PROJECT #1: If you’ve had your eye on my collages, I still have plenty of them available for purchase. Also, new collages will be made as large as 19x24in. Can I go bigger? You damn right I can! Just hit me up in the DM for purchases and questions.
NEW PROJECT #2: Denim work. Of course, I will be bringing these back as well and there’s a very high possibility of creating tapestries. That’s all I’m gonna say about that (*big smile*).
New ways to buy from me!
Collectors! I’m offering you a few comfortable ways to purchase art.
bundle artwork for one price
pay in installments for work over $100, to include bundled artwork.
Think about this for a while.
Peace,
Alexis B
I love that first collage at the bottom! When my money is no longer funny, and if it's still in your possession, I'm coming for it.
Gorgeous work.
