You wanna see a dead body?...
Microfiction. Inspired by a Kendrick + Pusha T song "Nosetaglia".
I saw a dead body today. He lay cold and lonely on the side of an abandoned building. Discarded like an empty liquor bottle. Dude was about 29. There was heavy blood on the front of his silk shirt. The crimson color covered the Cuban links that his girlfriend bought him just the other day. But in his grimy profession he was perceived as the neighborhood hero - pushing the purest powder and everyone was eating from his hands. But he was no one important to me. No hero. No savior. I shoulda snatched that fucking chain before I left him there.
The inspiration…
Song: “Nosestaglia” by Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar
I’ve been looping this song every day for nearly two weeks. When it comes to certain genres that I read, I’m drawn to the ones related to gang activities, drugs, violence, struggle and psychos. So, if I’m reading them, then I’m listening to them too.
When I first heard this song, I wasn’t sure what to expect but had a feeling that it was gonna be good since Pusha T and Kendrick Lamar are on it together. I was listening to it in the car one day and the lyrics jumped out at me. I listened closely and I could see everything that was happening in this song.
Pusha T: “Couldn’t do wrong with a chest full of chains and a arm full of watches/ What I sell in the hood, I’m a doctor…When a n——a die we add a link to the chain/inscribe a n——a name in your flesh…”
Kendrick: “You wanna see a dead body?/ Instruments from my mama’s Christmas party…My daddy dumped a quarter piece to a four and a half/ Took a L, started selling soap fiends bubble bath/ Broke his nails misusing his pinky to treat his nose/ Shirt buttoned open, taco meat laying on his gold…”
I’ve been reminiscing about the story my mom told me about her siblings and their drug use back in the 80s…but I won’t be discussing that today.
Donald Goines, New Jack City and the crack epidemic come to mind when I hear this song. I envision a guy that believes that he’s doing the community a favor. Passing out holiday turkeys while spreading poison and causing violence. Someone that believes he’s untouchable and as long as he’s doing his “good deeds” the community will turn the other cheek. But there’s always a few brave hearts that take the risk of killing the virus that has plagued their city for far too long.
Peace,
Alex B
Oooohh.. I want more of this one.
