I'm walking in the sun...
I need a mood booster, more art coming soon and new faceless portrait + microfiction
I woke up to three days of flurries this week and expected to see two inches of that cold white stuff on the ground this Friday. Michigan doesn’t get a real Spring but anytime we get more than three days in a single week above 50 degrees with the sun shining, we’ll take it. The weather plays on me mentally and I noticed a significant change in mood from one week to the next. A few weeks ago, I was energetic and focused as I powered through the days effortlessly. The following week, the temps dropped to the 30s and below and the clouds rolled in. That happy-go-lucky pep in my step quickly diminished. All I could think about was clock in, clock out and go to bed with minimal motivation to paint or even scribble on a scrap of paper. So, believe me when I say that I’m keeping my eye on the forecast for those warm days because I got stuff to do.
On the plus side, I’ve been making a strong effort to keep my mood up such as attending art shows, grabbing coffee at different coffee shops, reading more and shopping. This may seem like nothing to someone that does this regularly but when you’re used to the mundane schedule, the small changes are exciting and celebrated. I could feel the motivation to do anything art related slipping away from me day by day. Recently, I had a chat with my art friend about how artists can spend a great amount of time cranking out work like a machine. Switching from one job to the next with ease. This was me heavily in 2023 and thought about my unfinished projects. It had been a while since I made anything new. The collage I started on two weeks ago was staring at me every time I made my way to the studio to start on something new. I imagined those little scraps of paper taunting me and yelling “Damn will you hurry up and finish me?” I moaned and groaned about it, but I kept daydreaming about how I put in overtime last year that eventually left me burnt out by the end of the year. My list of to-dos was growing along with my procrastination and worries.
Something miraculous happened since that weekend conversation as I got this burst of energy to start churning out new work. Yeah - I have several WIPs but they ARE getting done…and soon.
So what’s good?
I got new collages dropping very soon so be ready for that. Yes, they’ll be pieces no smaller than 12x12in but it’s been suggested that I keep my artwork on the bigger size. Sure I can do that! Just know that many of them will be originals because I believe everyone deserves original artwork.
There are still PLENTY of drawings, small collages and denim art that need to shine in your homes and office spaces. Talk to me about bundling multiple art pieces and paying in installments if you need to. Currently working on rebuilding my new website but please check out all my work on Instagram.
I’m happy to announce that I have officially made my first faceless portrait that will be available for purchase soon. It is made with acrylic and oil paints on 12x12in acrylic paper. So excited to blend more mediums into my work. Portraits + microfictions will be introduced once a month at the very least for now.
Like always, let me know if you have any questions, concerns or requests.
Faceless portrait + Microfic!
Don’t come after me attempting to ruin my day. I’ve been sitting under gray clouds and making nonsense with my demons because I was lonely. I sent all my calls to voicemail and ignoring my notifications. We can talk tomorrow or maybe not. You see this smile on my face? Today I learned to let go. For the first time in days I’m happy again.
Thanks for reading!
Peace,
Alex B
