What do you get when you have a photographer with an imagination to make socks the focus in a photograph? You get Alexzander Jamez aka The Socktographer in Atlanta, GA. When I stumbled upon his Threads page in 2023, my initial thought was “What’s a socktographer?” Alexzander captures the essence of men’s fashion and emphasizes that socks are just as important as the rest of the clothing. For all the sock lovers (like me), keep reading to learn more about him.

Alexzander Jamez is a photographer, based in Atlanta, Georgia, specializing in capturing men's fashion and socks through imaginative and artistic photography. He started his photography journey as a kid growing up in Milwaukee, WI when his father purchased his first camera. It was there Alexzander know he had a love for the art of photography and began taking it to another level. His photography creates an experience, bringing out the personality and style of his subjects through his lens. His photographs have a creative flair, using composition, lighting, and styling to make even the most mundane subjects feel fresh and inspiring. His passion is sharing his vision of the world through the photographic medium and connecting with others who appreciate the art of the image. The end result is photographs that exude sophistication, vibrancy, and style that redefines men's fashion and photography.
What kind of art do you make and what/who inspires you to create?
Photography is my art. I love it because it’s the interpretation of what I see and can bring it to life. PEOPLE inspires me to create. I love to walk through the mall and just see the beauty and variety of people - that helps in my creative process, seeing the different flavors and styles of people and how they see fashion. A lot of my concepts have come just from me observing what I see while I’m out “living.” Talking to my friends and listening to how they interpret fashion and life inspires me.
I’ve never heard of a photographer that has a high interest in photographing socks and sneakers. What made you decide to explore this style of photography?
I love this question. This all started because I wanted to create my own brand of socks and struggled with coming up with a name for the brand. One of my photographer friends Dustin Perrin (an amazing photographer/videographer) suggested the name “SOCKTOGRAPHY” which I loved when I first heard it, but it sounded more like a coffee table book more than the name of a sock brand. I wanted to use the name so I started with the idea of shooting my sneakers and socks to get people interested in socks and to understand how important socks are to a mans wardrobe. Also, I figured if people recognized they liked socks, they’ll want to purchase my brand of socks. It went from posting to Instagram to me launching of full brand of photography, hence the name “The Socktographer.”
You’ve shared content that you also sing in the choir. How long have you been a singer and can you share your story about that?
Music/Singing is my passion. It’s a gift from GOD that I’m so thankful for. Besides my photography, I teach music, lead praise and worship at my father’s church New Friendship in Marietta, GA (Pastor A.L. Zollicoffer) and also direct the choir. Singing is my heart but like Sheryl Lee Ralph said to Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2, “singing doesn’t pay the bills” lol so I sing now just for the love of it.
Do you have any goals on where you want to see your craft or business? New projects, collabs, etc.?
My main goal for this year is to finally launch my sock brand and release my coffee table book. I would love to see my photography in a major magazine like GQ, in the window of a Foot Locker or any sneaker store. My dream collaboration would be with Dwyane Wade or Nick Cannon. Both of these brothers inspired me in my photography to showcase the gentleman swag of the models I shoot, focusing on their socks.
You have new socks in production. Can you share when we expect to see your new sock drop?
I’m hoping to have my socks launched by 3rd quarter this year. It’s a lot dealing with manufactures, but I’m confident that I’ll be able to finally get my socks out to you all.
Do you have any upcoming events or projects that everyone should be aware of?
Right now I am putting the final touches on my coffee table book “SOCKTOGRAPHY” which will be a collection of all the photos I’ve taken to date. I will be having a launch party that’ll showcase a lot of my photography work and opportunity to purchase some of the photos that’ll be showcased. It’s going to be an experience and a movement of epic proportion.
Where can people find you?
You can find me on IG @iamthesocktographer - my website is currently being developed and will launch real soon!
What I admire most about Alexzander’s work is the overall aesthetics. The colors and textures from the scenery colorfully blended together with what the models are wearing. I’m teleported back to my high school days as I enjoyed showing off my sneaker+sock situation. When I’m searching for a few new pairs, I’m not looking for the classic whites all the time. It’s the small conversation piece that expresses your personality for sneakerheads and casual wearers alike. They’re statement pieces that draws your eyes top to bottom and gives you the added elevation in your style. The interest in socks is growing and more artists are including them in their merch designs. I don’t know about you, but I put them in the same category as hats, scarves, jewelry, neckties and purses. They’re essential and if paired with the right outfit, you can step out stylish and in higher confidence.
Thank you Alexzander for sharing your love of fashion and photography!
